History of the Uconnect Infotainment Platform
The Uconnect system marked a new era in FCA’s in-vehicle technology, evolving from the early MyGIG foundations into a modern, connected infotainment suite. Each generation introduced major improvements in performance, usability, and integration—shaping the seamless multimedia experience found in today’s Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat vehicles.
Early Generation Radios (1990s–2006)
Before modern infotainment systems, GM vehicles featured traditional AM/FM and CD radios with optional cassette players and basic digital displays. Premium trims offered Bose audio systems, while later versions added XM satellite radio and steering wheel-mounted controls. These systems were primarily focused on audio performance and convenience, with minimal connectivity or digital integration.
